What the test involves
The Life in the UK test is a computer-based test of knowledge about life in the United Kingdom. You answer 24 questions in 45 minutes and need at least 75% correct to pass: 18 answers out of 24. Questions are based on the official handbook. Learn Britain supplies independent study material; its practice questions are not official test questions.
Book through the official service
The official booking fee is £50. Use the GOV.UK booking service and check the current identification requirements before paying. Make sure your booking details match the identity document you intend to take. Requirements and available appointments can change, so use the official instructions for your booking rather than relying on an old screenshot or a third-party checklist.
Practise both recall and timing
Start by learning a topic without a timer. Explain the idea in your own words, then try questions that approach it from different directions. Once you can recall the topic reliably, take a full timed mock. Practising only familiar questions can make a score look reassuring even when the underlying knowledge is fragile.
Use your score as a guide
After a mock, revisit every wrong answer and any correct answer you guessed. Write down the fact you were missing, explain why the other options do not fit, and try another question later. A practice pass is useful feedback, not a prediction or guarantee of the official result. Leave time to review the official handbook as well as using an app.
Before test day
Recheck your appointment, location, arrival instructions and permitted ID in the official booking information. Separate these practical checks from revision: being prepared for the journey and check-in helps you concentrate on answering the questions. If your circumstances may qualify for an exemption or an adjustment, check the current GOV.UK guidance before booking.
